Toddler Behavior Jars

Toddlers and Listening.  Let's face it they are getting older and have their own opinions and cannot always voice those opinions to us, so they get frustrated and whining and we get mad and frustrated. It all turns into a scenario I am sure we all know too well. My husband and I are always voicing to our daughter to use her words because we cannot understand it when she is whining about something. Her listening lately has turned into more fits and has been wearing on me.

We recently started doing behavior jars.  For our family this was a slight variation of sleep sticker chart we have been doing for the past month. The sleep sticker chart has been successful with helping with bedtime routine.  Before using the chart it could take up to 2 hours to get her to sleep at night. After a month now she is going to sleep by herself and seldom needs us to come up to her room! It has been amazing and so relieving. We decided to put those same principals to use in our everyday life with things that are difficult when it comes to our daughter. You may or may not have the same problems as us:

Finishing her meals
Brushing her teeth without a fight
Cleaning up toys
No fussing and whining
LISTENING

I went searching on Pinterest for some ideas. I took my ideas from:

She has great printables that we used and a trip to Target and Micheal's and we got started.

Here is how we decided to implement the jars.  The jars are all full of fun different rewards.  She gets these rewards if she does the good behavior without us asking. We are reminding her the first week, and letting her know that that behavior doesn't get a reward in her big jar! She has been saying, "Oh oh ok!". So far it has been helping and I sure hope it sticks.  Anything that can make my life less stressful with my toddler is fantastic in my book!

Here is a list of things I bought for the jars:

Jingle Bells
Stick Pom Poms
Pom Poms
Aquarium Gems
Small Ornament Balls
Sparkly Craft Balls

With Christmas here right now, there is a lot of small things at Michaels.

Our reward in the BIG jar has three different levels. A different one for each heart sticker.

1. Orange Tic Tacs (her favorite candy)
2. Small toy at the store
3. Zoo with mom and dad (her pick)

Wishing everyone luck with toddler listening!
